Meet the NCP Solar Team

Nelson Commercial Plumbing (NCP) is a small family business servicing Frederick County, Maryland, and the tri-state area for 35 years. Our increased concern about the environment and the opportunity to provide our customers with new earth-friendly products led to the creation of NCP Solar in 2007.

Curtis Nelson
NCP Solar owner Curtis Nelson has been a master plumber for more than 25 years. He served as the project manager for his family’s business, Nelson Plumbing and Heating, Inc. When that company closed in 2004, Curtis opened Nelson Commercial Plumbing to continue to meet the needs of his business and residential customers.

Curtis has worked on a diverse range of plumbing projects, including water treatment plants, hospital renovations, schools, churches, apartment buildings, prefabrications, water and sewer site utilities, single-family homes, townhouses, restaurants, medical offices, tenant fit outs, industrial plants, and more. To each job, he brings not only his expertise but also his integrity and his creativity in solving various plumbing problems.

Dawn Nelson
A 28-year employee of Solarex/BP Solar, Dawn Nelson is responsible for peaking her husband’s interest in solar energy. The two attended the Solar Decathlon in 2005, where Curtis saw firsthand how solar thermal panels could be used for heating water. In less than six months, Dawn and Curtis had purchased and installed an Apricus system in their own home and, after seeing the savings, did the same for their daughter. Both households have seen a 55% decrease in their electric consumption.

In addition to helping Curtis with installations, Dawn handles the marketing and sales aspect of NCP Solar. She and Curtis are members of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick and are involved in numerous community organizations, including Hope Alive and the Thurmont Sportsman Conservation Club.
